Copycat Challenge: Frosty Dines or How to Build a Snowman Tablescape for Kids of All Ages (1 to 101)!
I'd like to interrupt my regularly scheduled blog post to bring you something I haven't done in a while, a tablescape!
A few days ago, one of my favorite bloggers and I were discussing a tablescape I had done for my antique club's Christmas party. Upon seeing a snapshot of it, she said, "I could never do that!" To which I replied, "Bet you could!"
A few days later, I saw that another blogger was doing a tablescape challenge (which I missed!), but it gave me the idea to look for a simple tablescape that could be easily copied, using what was on hand.
In this case, I googled and found a cute snowman composed of white dishes, everyday flatware, turquoise napkins, and a few other odds and ends HERE (IBB At Home)...
Then I found another tablescape in reds, a color I had on hand. This snowman ( on the silver place mat below), and many more, came from BHG found HERE.
The beauty of these plate snowmen is that they can be constructed easily (and just as cutely) with paper products. Snowmen can also be used throughout the winter season with a variety of colors on their scarves and hats!
In my case, I used a red napkin for the scarf and our dark-handled bamboo flatware for his twiggy arms, adding a plastic candy cane (a party favor ornament) from Dollar Tree in his fork hand...
I also used our red plaid runners that Nancy made from a tablecloth I thrifted at Marshall's several years ago and our white plates with gold bands (because I had then on hand)...
York Peppermint Patties composed the buttons and the eyes. You could use Oreos or any treat you desire...
And Frosty has a baby carrot for a nose and a hat made of two cocktail napkins a red one with a green one peeking out just under it. A knife forms the base of the hat...
I thought I would just leave the candy in the wrapper for the buttons, but my curiosity got the better of me. I wanted to see Frosty fully dressed (ANY excuse to eat the candy!)...
Please excuse Frosty as he changes..
Ta Da!!!
Looking dapper, my man! But the table would look better with some glasses in that tablescape...
These red ones were a gift from Mom some time ago, and they have been used in a variety of tablescapes.
You could use red plastic cups if you were using paper plates and napkins!
Hmmmm... as cute as you are, Frosty, something is still missing!
The corner of your scarf needs a little something something...
Like maybe a snowflake from Dollar Tree (hint, they come several to a pack)...
That's the ticket!
Look at that Frosty go!
My, but he's jaunty!
Frosty may be jaunty, but that centerpiece needs help!
It just so happens that I have a top hat planter I purchased down in Central Florida from a favorite shop, CK Cleghorn's in Lakeland! Kim is a friend, an artist, and a fellow blogger, and you can find her shop HERE. I adore Kim and her shop, and I know you will, too!
While I love the top hat, those snowballs are starting to melt...
We'll just flip it over and go from there!
Hey, works for me!
Let's climb up here for a better look...
Don't you look, Mr. Magpie. You don't see me climbing on this step stool with my knee and hand recuperating... ;-)
While I like the red paper top hats...
What if we removed them...
And left the black top hat for everyone to share and moved the knife brim to the bottom for Frosty's perch...
Yessiree, that dog will hunt!
Hippity hop hop, hippity hop...
Look at Frosty go, oh...
Hippity hop hop, hippity hop...
Over the fields of red plaid snow!
(I live forever in Scotland in my dreams!)
And that, my friends, is a wrap!
Thank you for visiting me here, and I look forward to visiting you in return. I am also joining the following parties:
My friend Brenda for Tweak It Tuesday HERE
My friend Susan for Tabelescape Thursday HERE
My friend Kathleen for Let's Dish HERE
My friend Stephanie Lynn for the Sunday Showcase HERE.
I hope you will join us there as well!
Warmly,
Mrs, Magpie (Sheila) who is doing her best to battle whatever it is that is going around down here! Zicam is my friend!
P.S. aka Pretty Please with Sugar on Top... I am so very flattered that you want to pin my snowmen, and I appreciate your links to this post. That being said, I would ask that you please remember the two inspiration pictures (the second and third pictures in the post, the snowmen on the silverly placemats) were created by other people. I have links to their sources and just want to make sure they get the credit they deserve for their creations. Thanks so much, and I am happy you are enjoying this post!:-) That makes the risk I took standing on the step stool worth it! Again, please do NOT tell Mr. Magpie. That will be our little secret, okay? I have been properly chastised by some of my nearest and dearest so I won't do it again... well... maybe not. ;-) Merry Christmas! May Santa bring you all the shiny objects of your dreams! xoxoxoxoxoxox

What a darling snowman table!! I was singing right along with you. I really enjoyed the view from above of all 4 snowmen. Thanks for your comments on my Christmas decorations this year.
Ann
Mrs. Magpie -
This is my favorite table you or anybody ever set because I'm a snowman nut!
Missed your last post. Have been super busy.
Adrienne
Oh, I'm so glad to see you post and you're in great form! This is a darling tablescape! The bamboo forks are just perfect and the top hat in the center is SO cute!
Now even though Mr. Magpie did not catch you up on a chair with your injuries healing...I did, so I am telling you to stop this sort of thing immediately!! Actually, I did a number on my knee climbing up and down on chairs to hang wreaths and garland. My limp is much better today, thank you.
Happy Holidays, Sweetie!
XO,
Janie
Oh my goodness, your Frosty is just adorable! I love it. I have never seen a frosty tables cape before, so I am very impressed with yours!!!
Love and hugs, Cindy
Oh Shelia...that is sooo stinkin' cute!
I decorate with snowmen in January so this is going to be PERFECT!! I can't wait for Ms. C. to visit again so I can do her breakfast place setting like that after she goes to sleep. She will be tickled pink to see "Frosty" waiting for her in the morning.
Nana Rett is going to let her eat Oreos for breakfast, too, if she wants! LOL
Thanks for sharing this one!!
Sheila, this is adorable! You need to do more tablescapes. ;-) Thanks for sharing these cute ideas. I have to chime in with Jane. Stay off those step ladders. You don't want to repeat performance! Seriously, you need to rethink taking such chances.
Be careful! ~ Sarah
Well you know what - now I have to add the Dollar Tree - to do tomorrow!!!!
Those are the cutest snowmen table scape ever!!!!!!!!
I have to go back now and pin some of the photos.
Love !!!
sandie
Totally love seeing your happy snowmen on your wonderful tablescape. Be SO careful climbing up when getting really great shots of your treasures. Have a great week.
Joy
This is without a doubt the cutest tablescape EVER, and I think you should do more of them!
I was doing exactly what your were today...standing on a chair to get an overhead shot of some cookies. Not a good idea, but what's a 5'4" girl to do I ask?!
What a clever idea. I might just try to do a snowman table this week.
Your table is adorable Sheila! The cute snowmen bring big smiles:@)
Good morning Sheila, I have been so very busy and visiting has suffered. This year Christmas has been a struggle to get it all done. Yikes.
Your table setting is absolutely genius. I would never have thought to do this and it is so adorable. I do not have white dishes but now I will be on the lookout for a bargain. My sister just gave her white dishes to Goodwill. I wonder if they are still there. I am guessing NOT! Sigh.
We will be leaving to have Christmas with our children so I will be on a blog break until the new year.
Blessings and love are sent to you and yours with wishes for a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Jeanne xoxoxo
That is about the cutest thing ever Sheila!
And I love how you changed it out so many ways.
And please be careful, we don't want you getting hurt again.
Hugs friend,
Cindy
Sheila, you are SO creative and clever!! This is just precious! Thanks for sharing and showing all the different ideas to dress them up! Love this!
These are so cute, Sheila. I will have to do this for the kids. Thanks for the idea!...Christine
Shelia you did a fantastic job on this tablescape. I can see Tiger enjoying this snowman table very much. I like the napkin hats but your top hat is so stinkin cute and perfect to share. Love it!!!!
hugs,
Linda
Oh I love it so - with the red hat or with the top hat - the snowmen are so so cute. One of my favorites - simply because it is cute - and I love snowmen - and I love you - this is a happy christmas and winter table - I'll have to do one for my grandsons when they come for lunch with Grammy one day.
Hope you feel better soon - I just finally got over the "winter crud" and I'm happy to have survived. :-)
You get down off that stool!! You little silly. Well, anyway, your tablescape is just adorable. I love what you've done and the big top hat in the center is just perfect! I'm sure all the little ones, and the big ones, will love this. You're so sweet with your comments. I'm trying to let my hair grow out and I really shouldn't have put me on my blog - no makeup and looking pretty yucky! But thank you anyway! ;)
Now don't you be climbing anymore! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Cute stuff--It looks like those ole frostys are ready to hop about!
How fun. You are so clever and talented Sheila. Your tablescapes and Frosty would make anyone's day brighter.
Sam
That is just adorable! You're very artistic and especially using items you already had. I can't say I have a favorite photo because I love them all...BUT I laughed out loud at Frosty changing clothes behind the chair! How clever!! LOL
Hugs to you, Sheila!
(and you better be careful climbing on steps, chairs, etc!!)
This is so adorable. I can't wait to try this out. Stay off anymore chairs….hope your knee feels better.
Enjoy your decorating, I am lost in some too.
Happy Wednesday.
Karen
Feel better! Zicam and Airborne are our go-to's around here!
What a delightful tablescape. Although now I can't stop thinking about Peppermint Patties! My place setting would quickly be devoid of those babies!
Why, you sweet thang you! :) Keep those compliments coming! :) Hope your week is going well.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Absolutely adorable! You are so creative...love it all!
Hope you feel better quickly! Lots of sickies around here too.
Thanks so much for your sweet note ~ I always appreciate hearing from you. Will you ever be sharing an email addy? You're still a "no reply blogger". :)
xo
Pat
Oh, now is this NOT the most adorable idea? What a great way to get kids to play with their veggies then eat them! And for the adults?INSPIRATIONAL!
Sheila dear, thank you so much for your visit! It will be my last one until after Christmas, of course. I wish you and your family a happy season of true love. Anita
Welllll....how cute is that!!!!! Hope you are feeling better Sheila and I wish you a very very Merry season and Happy New Year. xo
This snowman tablescape is absolutely adorable! Great job, so different! I haven't seen anything like that before! Love it all, especially seeing the progression of tweeks!
We are hoping to come to St. Aug Thursday or Friday night for granddaughter see the lights. It's such a happy place! You are so blessed to live there!
Katherine
I am so glad you decided to design this tablescape. it is very quick and easy from your directions and photos. I love the plaid background but any color would be good. The use of the York patties as the buttons on the Snowman is wonderful and the napkin as the scarf is precious! This could be used for and adult table as far a I am concerned! Have a Merry Christmas!
Pam
This is too cute! Such a creative table. I love it!!
Jocelyn @ http://justalittlesouthernhospitality.blogspot.com
Such a cute idea!
Thanks for commenting on Sandie's post about my book. It's always nice to meet new people.
Your snowman is just adorable. Love the York patty buttons ! Visiting from Let's Dish.
Oh goodness, what a fun, festive table! I can't wait to give this a try. Thank you for the inspiration and all the tips. The plaid runners are the perfect backdrop for Frosty. Merry Christmas!
I think I know who I am going to be copycatting a tablescape from for the kids next week. This is the cutest ever "Frosty" tablescape. I just love it! I have your inspiration table pinned to my Pinterest board. I thought it was the cutest thing, and then I saw yours. Definitely thumbs up, yours is the cutest! I did not see anywhere to become a follower so I will cut and paste your URL to my blog list. Thank you so much for sharing.
An adorable table and so much better than the originals! So clever and so cute! And perfect for this time of year!
Oh, how adorable!!!! I love these snowmen and am inspired to make my own soon! Thanks for sharing this awesome table with us. :-)
Christmas blessings!
Kim @ Curtain Queen Creates
I just had to call my husband in here to get a laugh from that "Excuse Frosty while he changes" bit. HILARIOUS!!! We were both laughing so hard we almost lost control of our bladders. No, wait...we do that anyway. :-) That was really funny, though. We were both singing the little "Jeopardy think tune" to go with the waiting while Frosty changed! :-)
I love this idea!!! I think I saw something similar on Pinterest and maybe even pinned it to my board, but I have never attempted to recreate it. You did a knockout job! You're so right that this would be a hit for ages 1- 101!!! The 102-year-olds would probably turn their nose up at it, but what do they know? :-)
Great job! Very entertaining post! Merry Christmas!!!!!
What an adorable tablescape...cute and clever!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your lovely comment. I appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Sheila,
WOW! Snowmen and Santas are my thing during the Christmas season and I have never seen a Frosty figure all decked out like your amazingly creative tablescape here today!!
Wonderful!! Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas!

Poppy
How much fun! Frosty is so cute. Love the tartan tablecloth and the top hat centerpiece! Oh, and the snow flake on his scarf. Great job, and Merry Christmas! :)
Cutest table ever - hands down! I love the top hat and, of course, the snowmen! I, too, loved the Frosty changing line - love a hardy laugh first thing in the morning. What a great job you did with this one!!
How absolutely charming!! You've got my mind churning to the silver-rimmed china, and the square red plates, and the huge pack of red paper napkins.
What a welcoming WARM table, for such a Frosty theme---simply perfect. You DO beat all.
rachel
Oh my, that is the cutest table ever! I may have to borrow that idea :)
How cute is this! Love it, Sheila! And I know 2 little boys who would love it, too...my little grands! I am soooo far behind...lots of babysitting...catching up! Hugs...Debbie
Just as cute as can be. A very fun table! Thanks for all the photos explaining it!
Hi Sheila -Where do I start... the snowmen are so creative. I love the plaid! And I almost had coffee coming out of my nose I was laughing so hard at "please excuse me while I change." Love this! Everything! Merry Christmas. Hugs, Holly
Oh Sheila, I am so, so, so in love with this! I think I am going to have to change my Christmas Morning Breakfast table to this. The kids would just go crazy over it and oh, so easy. I love his "changing room" and his new attire! I am just in love!
Darling tablescape. I LOVE the snowman! CUTE!
My hubby has found a wonderful position and we are so grateful for answered prayers. Just waiting on the final paperwork to clear. God is good and we are blessed.
Merry Christmas to you friend. You bless me so much.
Love,
Rebecca
Shelia, this is absolutely THE CUTEST table I've ever seen! I've seen place settings that make snowmen, but I love the way you've done it. I love the sharing of that great top hat and the addition of the snowflake and candy cane to the scarf and fork. I like the way you walked us through your process, and I giggled about Frosty changing behind the wing back! Great post! laurie

This is a perfect table for the kids. I can't wait to recreate it for my grandbabies and I can see lots of other Grandma's spoiling their grandchildren with oreos or peppermint patties.
A tablescape! It's great to see you playing in the dishes, Mrs. Magpie! This is such a cute and budget-friendly tablescape. Sharing your thought process will surely serve as a "tutorial" for newbie tablescapers. Nicely done!
I'm sending blessed and merry Christmas wishes to you and yours!
Hi lovely lady.
This tablescape is darling so sweet. You did a great job putting this all together for us. Marry Christmas to you and your family and thanks so much for your sweet comment on my new Tablescape for Christmas.

This is adorable! It would be so fun to host a 'snowman' party to chase away the after Christmas blues that many get. I could see a menu of everything white with maybe just a bit of color. Thanks for sharing. I pinned! I have a link party going on now. Share Your Cup Thursday. It's all about sharing the things that make you happy. I'd love if you shared this!
hugs,
Jann
Sheila, you are a GENIUS!!!! This is SOOOOOOoooooo cute!!! :D The only thing.... you need a red ribbon and some holly around the hat! ;) heehee! (You see? You've got the ol' creative juices flowing like sap on a warm spring day! but, eep - don't mention that to Frosty! :P) To top it all off - you're so cute - the way you write!! :)
