MOON OVER MIAMI Part I

How about a trip to the tropics?  A little respite from the cold?  Here we go...

Not long ago,  my husband and I had the opportunity to visit Miami on business, and as always, we marveled at the diversity of architecture and neighborhoods in this very international city. I think we got some great shots and wanted to share.  These were taken with our phones...

For this particular trip, we stayed on Brickell Avenue as he had business there.

Brickell by night when we were first greeted with this unique building that changes colors.

This is the view from the balcony at our hotel...

Both the top of the building and the top two-thirds of the window areas change hues as evidenced in these shots below...

A party animal by night, the building actually suits up and looks quite conservative by day as seen here on the far left, just behind another building I wanted to show you.

This next building (in the middle of the picture above and to the left below) has a series of round windows in what appears to be a parking garage that connects the two tall towers...

The windows/circles are a colorful sight by day or night (when they are lit). They look a little like an electrical circuit board, don't you think?  Or maybe a box of watercolors. 

And I like how these windows are echoed by the oculus in the center, revealing the heavens above and joining the two towers. You can see it a little better in the second, third, and fourth shots, the shots in which this building's friend is swathed in magenta-gone-purple. Must have a hot date!

 

We chose to stay at The Viceroy, whose interiors were executed by Kelly Wearstler and the spa designed by Phillipe Starck with the building designed by Arquitectonica, the architectural team who designed the famous building in the opening scene of "Miami Vice".

I plan to share The Viceroy in a different post because it is so unique, inside and out, and I have a ton of pictures of it.  However,  I do want to share the view from The Viceroy's pool area on the 15th story.  They had a steel and plexiglass guard rail along the walkway near the pool, and this was the view...

Looking down and across the water at a neighboring pool,,,

It was a lovely (and balmy) night of lights, even though it was long past midnight...

The lights were beautifully reflected in the water that surrounds the city...

We were so far up...

...that the pool and parking areas for the neighboring condos seemed like a canyon. The parking garage looks a bit like a ship about to embark on a voyage...

 And you got the sensation that you could reach out and touch the clouds...

Let's float on that one, right there...

Or maybe you'd prefer to lasso the moon?

It looks like a giant spotlight on that building...

But no, it's only our good friend, Mr. Moon...

Who, along with our colorful friend Mr. Cheesegrater Building (pronounced so by my friend who is an RISD grad), would like to bid you, "Adios"...

If you think the lighted building is colorful, wait till you see The Viceroy's interior. The last shot is of The Viceroy's infinity pool with the colorful building reflected there.  You won't believe the pool area or the interiors!

By night, I felt like a visitor to Gotham City. I fully expected to see Bat Man sailing around the tops of the buildings or Spidey dancing to the beat of the reggae drums we could hear coming from clubs along the water. Very exotic and a bit other-worldly all rolled into one!

I thought I would join The Tablescaper for Oh, The Places I've Been!

Then Susan for "Metamorphosis Monday" (I think this building definitely qualifies as a metamorphosis!)
