Wednesday's Child is Going to Lunch at The Beach

I am preparing to play hooky today! I had promised a special blue post, but I've decided to save it until Blue Monday. Being, however, a bird of my word, I'm going to leave you with a blue image or two or three...

In the first image, there's a slogan that I tell myself when I've lingered too lovingly over the computer keyboard or after wiling away my time, daydreaming of all of the latest recipes or shoes or baubles with which I find myself tempted on a daily, and sometimes hourly, basis. Just like some other birds I know. Not naming names. ;-) Maybe you can use this same excuse...

The second image is a little web-footed friend who is waiting somewhat impatiently for Thursday to arrive. A very important friend is coming to visit and sit for a while with him in the blue check chair. He's not the only one who's grateful for the arrival of said friend, and I will explain more about that on Thankful Thursday.

Hope your Wednesday is full of joy as you go about preparing for Thanksgiving. As for me and my house, we aren't doing the cooking this year. And I am blessing the hands that are cooking, along with the hands that are preparing your meal, be they yours or someone else's. :-)

Hope you enjoy this little bouquet of Beauty Berries I picked for very beautiful YOU! xoxoxo

Quintessentially yours,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)... who thinks the blue in this post might just suffice after all! :-)

Yes, Virginia, That Snowball Is Dancing

This post isn't about just any old Snowball, or else Patrick and Sponge Bob wouldn't be that excited. In case you haven't been formally introduced, the Snowball in the following video is a bird. And he's not just any old bird, mind you, but a bird who loves to dance!

Someone sent me a link to a video last summer with Snowball dancing to the Backstreet Boys (he's picky about his music, but fortunately his taste has matured;-), and now they have a video of him dancing to Christmas music! You can tell that he really loves "Sleigh Ride," "Joy to the World" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." What he does with his forelock/comb/bangs in one of those numbers is priceless! ;-)

What is even more special about Snowball is that he is a rescue bird, and as such, he's living proof that rescue animals are gems. When he arrived in rescue, the people who brought him in, also brought his favorite CD's, and when the rescue personnel saw what he did when they played his music for him, they were happily stunned. Now, apparently, millions of people are happily stunned right along with them. As a consequence of his dancing ability, Snowball has become a celebrity on television shows and at other functions, and he has also become, in effect, the poster boy for bird rescue.

The real ornaments of any home are the people who live there, and if they're really blessed, the pets who live with them. Snowball is no exception in that case.

So do yourselves a favor and click on the following link for Snowball dancing to Christmas Music. The one below that is Snowball dancing to the Backstreet Boys. It looks like he has an actual routine in that one. Plus it has close to two million hits on You-Tube. Watch one, watch them both, but whatever you pick, ENJOY!

Oh, and please come back and let me know what you think. Thanks! :-)

Chapter 1: I AM BORN (or at least my blog is!)

With my profound apologies to Mr. Dickens for continuing to take liberties with his prose:
"Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own [blog], or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show. To begin my [blog] with the beginning of my [blog], I record that [it] was born (as I have been informed and believe) on a [Sunday], at twelve o'clock [or thereabouts] at night. It was remarked that the clock began to strike, and I began to cry, simultaneously."

Well, maybe not cry, exactly, but twitter, excitedly.

For you see, several months ago I discovered the wonderful world of blogs. This occurred when I accidentally stumbled on a decorating blog late one night. As I read my way into the next morning, a whole new world dawned.

In that world are all sorts of people whom it's been a joy to meet while visiting their cyber homes. I've laughed with them, cried with them, and cheered their creativity. I've even prayed with them when they've asked and sometimes when they haven't.

Some of those same bloggers have questioned me about when I would get this blog running. I've had a millions reasons why it was lying dormant, and one of them is going to be evident upon staging this first open house. The blog design is not complete. But isn't every blog a work in progress much as the people who blog are?

Not too long ago, The Nester (of the Nesting Place) assured her readers of something I've long believed: your nest doesn't have to be perfect for you to entertain. I happen to ascribe to that philosophy in my home life, so why not on my blog? Hence the lack of a doorbell in the flights of fancy room, the unmade bed in the press corner, my godson's picture missing under the peeps den, and no wallpaper in the foyer (referred to in blog lingo as a header). But what's a little unfinished decor between friends?

So... here we are, just you and I. Really, I guess it's just Mrs. Magpie here, but from looking at the counter on the profile page, there must be someone else out there, too. If you are there, please speak up and introduce yourself, and don't leave me chatting to four unfinished walls. You know how people talk! ;-)

Hopefully,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)... who is also hoping for the kindness of strangers in please telling her exactly how to get a picture to go where you want it within the draft of a post!

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
