Surprised? At the very least I realize it sounds, well, a bit squirrely...
But yes, I -- Mrs. Magpie -- married Mr. Magpie three times!
I came to this startling realization on Saturday when posting on a friend’s blog...
You see, Mr. Magpie and I eloped when he was in law school, and I was in grad school. It was the path of least resistance when we knew a full-blown wedding would be nothing short of a three-ring circus at a time when we were both devoted to our studies...
But being a good Southern girl, I promised my mother that we would restate our vows before my cousin (who’s a Presbyterian minister) and then have a phone book party...
A what??? Well, a phone book party is what I call it when both sets of parents appear to open the phone book and invite hundreds of their "closest friends" and relatives to a great big shindig. ;-)
Phone book or not, over the Christmas vacation we happily succumbed to their joint will. So that was the second time I married Mr. Magpie...
Then when we hit our silver anniversary, we did it again! We invited friends and family to witness a renewal of vows and then afterwards attend a fun reception. So in total, I married Mr. Magpie three times!
And you know what? I would marry Mr. Magpie three more times!
Because...
There are...
So many...
Reasons...
I...
Love...
Him...
So on this day of days, Mr. Magpie, I want you to know one of the very special reasons I love you...
And that reason is you remind me in many ways of the other two men I love most, our fathers, which is the highest compliment I could ever pay anyone...
So in what is now the autumn of our lives...
I invite you to join me in a splendorous place...
