True Confessions: I Married The Same Man Three Times!!!

Surprised? At the very least I realize it sounds, well, a bit squirrely...

But yes, I -- Mrs. Magpie -- married Mr. Magpie three times!

I came to this startling realization on Saturday when posting on a friend’s blog...

You see, Mr. Magpie and I eloped when he was in law school, and I was in grad school. It was the path of least resistance when we knew a full-blown wedding would be nothing short of a three-ring circus at a time when we were both devoted to our studies...

But being a good Southern girl, I promised my mother that we would restate our vows before my cousin (who’s a Presbyterian minister) and then have a phone book party...

A what??? Well, a phone book party is what I call it when both sets of parents appear to open the phone book and invite hundreds of their "closest friends" and relatives to a great big shindig. ;-)

Phone book or not, over the Christmas vacation we happily succumbed to their joint will. So that was the second time I married Mr. Magpie...

Then when we hit our silver anniversary, we did it again! We invited friends and family to witness a renewal of vows and then afterwards attend a fun reception. So in total, I married Mr. Magpie three times!

And you know what? I would marry Mr. Magpie three more times!

Because...

There are...

So many...

Reasons...

I...

Love...

Him...

So on this day of days, Mr. Magpie, I want you to know one of the very special reasons I love you...

And that reason is you remind me in many ways of the other two men I love most, our fathers, which is the highest compliment I could ever pay anyone...

So in what is now the autumn of our lives...

I invite you to join me in a splendorous place...

Where we'll walk...

In...

Fields...

Of...

Gold...

Happy Valentine's Day, Mr. Magpie! I love you much! XOXOXO

And Happy Valentine's Day to all of you who so kindly read my blog and have poured love into my life and his! I wish you all the best in life and a heart full of love today and every day...

XO,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila) :-)

VIP P.S. I will be without a computer almost all of this coming week. Hence, I won't be able to visit or participate in a wonderful event this coming Friday, but you can! That's the anniversary celebration of Foodie Friday at Designs by Gollum.

Gollum has got some fabulous giveaways that I know you are going to want to enter... giveaways for dishes, cookware, and all sorts of shiny objects. So do yourself a favor and go visit Gollum HERE . You'll be ever so glad you did!

In the mean time, I'll visit you before I leave and see you when I return!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY FROM SOMEONE WHO'S KINDA NUTTY ABOUT YOU! ;-)

As you must have picked up, I do miss you when you are gone and worry a bit too. Not to make you care for my feelings but the gesture is so much appreciated. I loved this blog. It came at a very important time in my life. I have taken your words of wisdom and tucked them away in my heart. Which words you say? The ones that state..."I would do it again three more times". This is the most charming and memorable Valentine's post of all time. I smiled when I read about the phone book party--that's perfectly Southern! :-) I definitely think you need those salad plates we talked about! One for each wedding and one to grow on.

You will never read this. It is way too far back now..but..that's ok. Perhaps you shouldn't.
You see, I envy you..I am not jealous..not a bit..I just envy you in that you are still with your love. I also would have married my love over and over and would go to him in a moment if I could. Anyone who knows me at all knows this. I married twice afterward..I was so lonely and needed someone to care for and Patrick would have pushed me to do so. It has been "an older love" both times since Patrick. Both men were married over 50 years and only married once.
Do I compare them to Patrick? No.
Not. Never.
But I wish Pat were here and that I could write such a thing to him on Valentines Day.
I used to. I used to write to him and some of the letter are still here, and I like to think he has seen them.
But, God help me, I DO envy you! And love what you have and wish you years and years of joy.
Patrick died in Autumn when the leaves were falling. Enjoy your walk in those golden fields.

Hey Shelia, what a beautiful post. Mr. Magpie is very very lucky to have such a wonderful las to have for a wife THREE times!.
Sorry I haven't been blogging but life has been very crazy. My dad has bladder cancer and it is very aggressive and stage 2. they give him 1 year or take the bladder out. he is still young to have this radical surgery but if he is going to live that is what has to be done. also my good friend is having her breast removed next week from breast cancer. I love all your photos of flowers and smiles. it makes me smile. keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Shelia, I just love this post about YOUR loving hubby! I married the same man twice so I can totally relate. (similar circumstances)
He looks like a real sweetheart & my favorite shot is the one of his eyes crinkled up, smiling at you. Priceless!

I also loved seeing the passion flower photo. My neighbor in FL had a HUGE plant & I often got to enjoy them. Too bad they don't last very long once picked, huh?

Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. I appreciate your words so much.
fondly,
Rett
