My sweet mother in law has been admitted to Hospice. This happened very, very suddenly a few weeks ago. She has been battling for her life over the last year, and she has fought the good fight every step of the way. You never would have believed that she underwent radiation last year because she has been up and going to all of her many, many activities, allowing no discomfort to slow her down. She was going to parties only a few weeks ago!
She is amazing, and she is my hero.
Blessedly, "Mom" remained well enough to continue to live each and every day to the fullest, enjoying every moment of a wonderful life, while looking forward to being with The Lord and loved ones in the hereafter. She doesn't just hope to do that. She lives with that complete assurance because she believes the Lord's promise to her. She is joyful in the face of pain and being separated from the loved ones here who mean the world to her. After all, it's not that long before we will be joining her at the party ahead in a place where there is no more sorrow or sickness or pain of any kind. Amazing Grace, indeed...
I am sure you will understand when I say that time is of the essence right now as there is a lot going on here. So if I am delinquent in my visits to your blogs, please know I will return when I am able. My mother in law would be the first to say, "Go on with your lives," and she would mean every word. "Keep living" is what Dad told her when he went on ahead, and she listened well and lived with gusto.
I would ask one thing of you. Please pray that she is pain free. She refuses to take her pain medication as she doesn't want to miss the time with us, or endure grogginess, so I would really appreciate your prayers to that end. I believe in miracles and have witnessed them first hand, both on and off the blogs, and I know that you all are faithful in your prayers.
Loving and appreciating each and every one of you!
XO,
Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)
P.S. I wanted to share the flowers I arranged for a family party that Mom wanted us to host at her home last weekend to introduce her grandson's (our nephew's) fiancee (visiting from New Hampshire) to a close circle of family. Even though Mom was unable to get out of bed and didn't get to come to the party, the party was able to go to her by filing into her room to say, "Goodnight" and to tell her how much she is loved and appreciated!
Mom's favorite flowers are pink peonies, and she loves a garden bouquet look. I found the vast majority of these flowers at the grocery store, my favorite stomping ground next to the yard. Despite the bad lighting, lighting which played havoc with the flowers' actual colors (sorry!), they are my bouquet of gratitude for your prayers and loving thoughts. xoxoxo

hugs, she sounds like a remarkable woman.
I'm so sorry Sheila. Your family is in my thoughts, please take care.
Mrs. Magpie -
You've been through so much and I hate you are going through this. I'll be praying for you and your family.
Hugs,
Adrienne
My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family in the coming days, Sheila. I pray they will be peaceful and pain free for Mr. Magpie's precious Mom.
I will pray that God, in his mercy, will allow her to suffer no pain. She has been such a blessing to you, hasn't she. And such an assurance and trust in the Lord! When my dad was in the nursing home and near death, the nurses and social work talked to me about dad (and me) being in denial that he was dying. I explained to them that in no way were he or I in denial. It's just that he had absolutely no fear of death because he knew the Lord Jesus who conquered death.
Sheila, this is a thoughtful post about "mom". She is fortunate to have a loving DIL like you. I pray that she will gently pass to the next life with her family by her side. Take care, sweet friend. ~ Sarah
PS
I finally have my blog feed working again and the email subscription is too. ;-)
Very lovely bouquets of flowers, dear Sheila. I'm sorry to hear of your pain at the illness of your "mom". God is faithful and you know that He is looking forward to her "homecoming".
Love, hugs, and prayer. Cindy
So sorry to hear this news, Sheila. Praying for your sweet mother-in-law and for your entire family during this difficult time.
I am so sorry to read about your Mother-in-law.
She sounds like an amazing woman.
I shall add my prayers to all of yours for comfort and peace.
Hugs and blessings, Sheila.
I'm glad you let us know.
She sounds like an incredible woman. Prayers and thoughts to you and your family.

Sheila, what a marvelous woman your mother-in-law "mom" truly is! I send good thoughts and wishes that she will not suffer from any pain. I'm sure you've been a marvelous daughter-in-law to her, as well. Sweet hugs and thoughts coming your way.
Sheila,
What an amazing woman! I admire her courage to go without medication, but it's her reason for doing so that got me teary eyed. Will for sure pray, and please give her a kiss for me (if you are with her at the moment).
So sorry to hear your news. Hugs!
You sound at peace also and I'm so grateful for that. I will be praying that she has no pain. Know that many are praying for you as well. Hugs!
I am so sorry to read this and know exactly how you're feeling as you approach the hour. In your head and in your heart, you know without a doubt that she is stepping from this world into something so awesome we can't imagine it. You know that the same Jesus who met her in that dream is waiting at the gate. What a thought...
And yet, you know that when she does step across, there will be a huge vacancy left on THIS side. You also want that passing to be as pain free as possible. I believe in that miracle because I have SEEN it with my own eyes. I will join with the warriors in prayer.
(And I will pray about the other thing you mentioned on my blog. What in the world??? Huge hugs to you from me. )
I am sad for you and your loved ones who will miss her delightful life! But I am 100 percent with your mom-in-law! I lost my beautiful sister Pat the same way in 2001. She was tired of medicine, pain, hospitals. She went home to "meet her maker" as she put it! I remember my last phone conversation with her, she said she was ready to meet Jesus and visit with our dad and other relatives who went before her at that time. I loved my sister but I hated her being in pain. I so loved reading your words and I know how difficult they must have been to put here. But I feel so excited for your mom as she meets Our Lord and enjoy s eternity and a pain free days and nights. What a joy awaits her. I will be praying. I know you have a full plate but would you please pray for my sister Mary. She has been waiting for a pacemaker and they told her Monday that her swelling on her face must be gone completely and her system antibiotic free before the surgery. She is scared and I ask for prayer for her. God Bless You and yours. I am praying for your beautiful mom! Hugs and Blessings Anne
Am so sorry to hear this. Praying for your entire family to have peace that passeth all understanding.
Blessings and prayers to you.
Judy
First, know that your dear mother-in-law is in my prayers for a pain-free journey. Your post is a beautiful tribute to her legacy. Your flower arrangements are stunning, and provided a wonderful backdrop for some special memories for the newly engaged couple. I look forward to learning more about your "mom", and I think we all understand that you need time. Love & hugs, dear friend.
Hang in there, friend. She sounds like a great woman, but YOU are an AMAZING DIL. She is very blessed.
You know I'm praying for all, and I will continue to do so.
I agree with *Mom* ...we must go on with our lives!! Don't even think twice about blogging and all those insignificant details.
Peace and hugs.
Keeping your Mom in law in my prayers. She sounds like remarkable woman! Take the time to enjoy each and every moment with her!
Linda
Oh Sheila, so sorry to hear about this but I love to see your whole attitude towards it. What a wonderful woman she is! I will keep her in my prayers hoping she will be pain free. Your flowers and arrangement are beautiful....Christine
Sorry to hear this Shelia! Remember all of you in prayer!
She sounds incredible, Sheila. Prayers for her and her wonderful family.
I've been through a lot in my life, but the most difficult thing, I think, was when I signed my mother into Hospice. You have all of my good thoughts, sympathy, and compassion. The Hospice people are wonderful, please do let them do whatever they can to make this time better for you.
You're all in my prayers, dear friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Mom Sheila.
She sounds like a truly extroidinery person.
So glad to hear from you my dear.
Our life has been a little crazy too.
Big Hugs and prayers,
Cindy
Prayers her journey is pain free. God bless her.
Dearest Sheila,
What a blessed dream you describe here, how she saw JESUS walking through the gate to greet her, but then only to wake up. "In the Garden"...what an appropriate name for a hymn, for I believe that God made us to be in the garden, in paradise, and yet the rest is history....our "demise" is that we traded that paradise for what an illusion. But HE has given us so much grace and the gift of faith to press on. When my mom was dying of cancer, I was surprise to learn from her doctor that SHE was such a living example to the rest of the patients at the City of Hope cancer hospital in California.....he described her as going to other patients, being kind, visiting them, and always cheerful....now that's the way to life AND die....
But may God's grace be extended to all of you and give your MIL the quality of life that will be forever remembered.
Thank you dear one, for visiting me - how very, very kind. Anita
What a difficult time for your family, Shelia...no wonder you needed a "pink" smile. I pray that your mother-in-loves passing will be Peaceful & painless & that you & your family will be comforted by the knowledge that she will rest in His arms soon.
Gentle {{HUGS}},
Rett
Oh, Sheila, I am so sorry that you are going through this. I pray for Mom's gentle passing...that it's pain free and peaceful. What a wonderful "dream" to have. I'm sure it gave her comfort and anticipation for what is ahead...
"and He walks with me, and He talks, with me. And He tells me I am His own..." This is my mom's favorite hymn, too. It's such a comforting song. Mom used to sing it all the time. I'm afraid that it's one of those songs that is now locked in her head, unable to get out. But I believe it resonates within her...
Hugs,
J
You know you have me praying. I love you love your MIL - I loved mine too. I just can;t understand some of the girls today (my DIL doesn't really care for me - lol) - but that is another story. Your MIL was lucky to have you too. I will be praying for sure. I know God is there.
Love, sandie
Sheila, these are beautiful flowers arranged for a beautiful person by a beautiful person. My thoughts and prayers and with you and Fred at this time. Lindsay x

Hello, Sheila!
I just wanted you to know that I saw this, the day it was published and had a chance to read just enough to pray for you. Now, that I'm back with more time - what a beautiful post and what an incredible faith!! xxoo
I am praying for your MIL every day Sheila. My sympathy as to what you both are going through is so sincere. I have been there a few times and it is so sad. May the Lord give you both strength and blessings.
Love, Jeanne
Sheila, this is a beautiful way of sharing your precious MIL with us. I love the story of her dream. God comes to us in our dreams.
Hugs to you and peace,
Becky
I'm just reading this, Sheila, because after I quit blogging I took a long break from my computer. Now I forgot my password. How bad is that!
I pray all goes smoothly with your MIL. I can tell how much you love her and what a dear one she is. She is lucky to have a DIL like you who clearly cares so much for her and her well being. While you focus your thoughts and prayers on her, know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I've been there with some I hold dear. -- Carol
Oh Honey... I'm so sorry to hear about your "MOM"... I'm thinking about your and Fred and praying for all....

Beautiful post ... I'm so sorry to hear of her health complications but what a story (and legacy) in her love and trust in the LORD. Great to hear in this day and time. Thank you for sharing it.
And, beautiful flowers that are beautiful even if you know their colors aren't right or as vibrant .. they are to me.
Thanks and take care ...
Jenn
I realize things have more than likely changed since you wrote this post. Makes my heart heavy in one sense and thankful in another for your mother in law being a Christian and I will meet her some day (as you said, soon probably). Your post and her example blessed me, so I'm going to share your post on my blog tomorrow. Borrowed a clipping of your flowers for the images - and a quote from your mom and dad and you.
Thank you again for sharing this. Jenn
What a testimonial to real Christian living. I am encouraged and blessed by your Mom's story. How wonderful that at this late hour she is still touching lives and shining Christs love for strangers to see.
