Blue Monday: Living With Blue (Part II)

Good Morning! Today is Blue Monday at my good friend Smiling Sally's blog, and it's the day when those of us who love blue get together and celebrate by sharing our favorite blues with each other.

A few months ago, I started taking you on a tour of our Florida retreat, and today, I'm going to continue that tour by showing you some of the blue in our downstairs bathrooms. This first shot is looking into one of the baths...

The walls are real wood bead board, the light fixtures are actually outdoor fixtures that have a nautical look, and the pedestal sink is by Kohler. I like this version because there is a wide, flat expanse around the sink basin...

On the door, there is an antique blue sailor suit. Other blues include the blue shower curtain by Nautica, blue lettering on the life ring mirror (I had an antique canvas life ring in here that I moved), and a Martha Stewart hand towel in blue stripes.

Speaking of towels...

These are the same Martha towels in bath size, and that is one of her Nantucket baskets (purchased at K-Mart) holding washcloths.

This next shot is an antique stained glass window that came from England. Naturally, there's a pop of blue in the window...

And this shot is a little blue and white boat functioning as a shelving unit over the toilet in this bath...

The boat contains some sailboats and a vintage Old Spice shaving mug set. It's also topped by my hat, known (of course) as a boater. ;-) The boater hat has a dark navy band.

This last shot of the bathroom is a picture of the back of the door which we had stripped to reveal the antique wood...

While this isn't blue, I still thought I'd show it to you along with the old floats hanging there...

And a very old latch lock that, if it is as old as the house, is 115+ years old...

This is the other downstairs bath...

Whose walls are Benjamin Moore's Dunmore Cream (which is a tad off in these photos)...

This room has a little less blue...

But I thought I'd show you the blue we do have in there...

The sink I found has a shell shaped basin and is a good size for this bath which is small but functions well...

Once again, towel compliments of Martha Stewart...

The starfish (tied to the towel with raffia) is compliments of a very old shell shop on A1A in St. Augustine, a shop that has the most amazing variety of shells and kitsch that magpies simply can't resist! ;-)

Shells (and kitsch) like this starfish...

And this one...

And this one that hold court on our Christmas tree each year...

If you're ever in St. Augustine, it's a fun stop! :-)

Thank you so much for visiting me here at my blog, and I look forward to visiting you at yours! Please join me as I visit the rest of the Blue Monday gang at Smiling Sally's blog which you may do by clicking here. :-)

Quintessentially,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

I visited there a year ago. It is a beautiful place. My cousin is in the process of moving from Beaufort, SC to Flagler Beach, which is just a short distance away.

DH would love to visit the area and go to the big World of Golf place.

Sheila, I love your bathrooms, especially the little boat shelf, the outdoor lights over the mirror, and the star fish in her polka dot bikini. How cute!

I hope you have a happy Blue Monday.

Such a cute theme for a bathroom! Both bathrooms are very pretty.

I used to have so much blue in my home when we were first married, blue was my favorite color growing up, then I moved on to pink, then the jewel colors grew on me, and now I'm thinking pink again. Maybe I'll get around to blue once more.

Nice post!

I know that shop! I believe we've been in there a time or three :)

It looks great Sheila - I love the live-saver around the mirror. I'll be looking for some of the "skinny" starfish next time I'm there.

That final shot sums it up so well. The stained glass is pretty reflected in your innovative mirror. How I love pure white with touches of BLUE. Johnny was in the Navy, so I've seen (and cleaned!) that uniform many times. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

Love your tour of your FL home. I had a place on Anna Maria Is. but had to sell it when my husband died. Love you pedestal sinks especially the one shaped like a shell. I remember shopping for things for my home there and it seems I found more up north that I liked than in FL!! (I mean things that didn't look touristy.) Great idea for towels. Great Blog.
Thanks for the info on the suction cup for the door hanger. I have a glass door too.

As you know, St. Augustine is one of my VERY FAVORITE places and one that evokes wonderful memories of my childhood family vacations. Both of my parents are deceased now, but oh, the fun we had there every summer! Daddy loved to go into St. Augustine to the little theater they had. He loved going to the movies on vacation! I am coming back again!

How I love your nautical decorating style. I would love to get my hands on the lifesaver with the mirror!! The hand towels in a basket is also a wonderful idea. I don't have a lot of room around my bathroom sinks, so hanging a basket is a great solution. And tying the towels up with raffia and starfish is really clever! Love, love, love getting ideas from bloggers.

Now, you only visit this retreat in St. Augustine, correct? Is your permanent home nearby?

I hope you had a great weekend, Sheila! :-D

What great bathrooms! You've given me lots of ideas for mine, which are in desperate need of some attention.

Framing the bathing suit would be so cute. I used to have a sweater that some dear soul took the time to crochet about twenty little bikinis and then attached them to the sweater. It was so funny and adorable. I've lost it somewhere, or it could be hiding.

If you get a chance stop by today, you'll love what I posted and I say we need these in Florida! {hugs}
