Exercise with Trendy Burlap! It's a MUST!

All this talk lately about decorating with burlap, and what should appear in my e-mailbox some time back but the following suggestion for exercising with those trendy burlap bags! I decided to give it a try, and it's UNBELIEVABLE the bang for the buck!

Image from Gulf Coast Bag

ANY age group can benefit from a makeover/metamorphosis with this hottest new exercise, done with a couple of cute burlap bags. Decorate them with a stenciled on fleur-de-lis, some French words (our very own Professor Debbie could be consulted for fun phrases), or your own personal monogram like my talented friend Rhoda did on her dining room lamp shades...

Ready???

Subject: Exercise For People of All Ages Who Want to Be Hot! Hot! Hot! And Hip, Not Hippy!

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks.

Then try 50-lb potato sacks. Eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack.

Warmly,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

P.S. Sorry, I couldn't resist! ;-)

Haha! I was thinking I would have to start with a one pound sack! ...but without the potato, I might be able to swing a 5 pounder! LOL!

The post below, the tribute to Amy is beautiful! Such a sad situation!

Boy, I had to reread the statement about 100 pound bag in each hand....funny ...funny. You got me, that was very cute. Thanks for coming buy.
After I made that purchase and before it arrived, I received a call from my other credit card company wanting to know if I had used my card for 600.+ dollars on Ebay....had not so it was removed.
Strange.

Ok so I read your comment thinking "Mrs. Magpie really doesn't know Claudie at all, because if she did, she would totally know that Claudie HATES to exercise". So here I am, thinking the sacks you showed us were going to get us off our "arses" and make something with burlap... but no, you wanted us to exercise with it!
OK this is a trick for sure. Yes indeed you had me, and I had to go back and read it again like Barbara. So I'm not nuts, I know it's late, but yes you did it again.
Great post you funny lady you.
Love You & the anticipation only get's better.
Love Claudie
xoxoxo
BTW If you want to meet in N.C., Jeanne has a cabin that sleeps 4. She said we are "oh so welcome". I know she would LOVE to meet you too.

Sheila,
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving such sweet comments. It's funny b/c I was just back in my hometown, and went to JoAnn's (we don't have one here) to buy some burlap. Didn't know it was the cool thing to do. Now if I can figure out how to use my sewing machine, I might be able to lose some weight! LOL! Happy Halloween!

Oh, Shelia, this is the most amusing thing I've read in ages! You set it all up perfectly. Then you "got" us at the end! I think I was actually holding my breath as I imagined you standing there, arms outstretched, performing near-superhuman feats of strength!

Such fun! Thank you.

Who knew that burlap bags could be so trendy Sheila--you are too funny. Thanks for giving me a chuckle this morning!

Dawn said...

Too funny! I really don't get the whole burlap thing. Isn't it rough and itchty and makes people sneeze? Maybe I haven't been exposed to high quality burlap?
I think I'll just start with a little red potato and skip the bag. Maybe I'll be able to work up to one of those huge Costco potatos!
Hugs,
Dawn

OMGOSH...I was sweating and straining and when it got to 50 lb. sack, I nearly passed out...then...I fell on the floor, laughing at you, you silly, shiny-loving magpie, you!! Sosososoooo cute...
and I am so crazy for burlap, I don't know what to do. Pottery Barn is showing a pillow out of it and all stamped up and I am about to have a runaway for two of them!!! If I were crafty, I would make them....but....alas, not a craft bone in my body....:(

jeanne said...

Hi Sheila, you really had me going with 50lb. bags to say nothing about 100 lb. bags. I had a great laugh that's for sure. A great joke!!!

Our company left this morning and I had errands all day today. We just arrived home after leaving at 8:45am today. I need a nap.
Your post about Amy is beautiful. How sad to lose a young girl only 33 years old. I am only consoled by the fact that she is with our Lord. Prayers are with the family.

Have a wonderful day.

Hugs and love, Jeanne

Hi Sheila,
I just jumped over from your comment on Joni's blog--thank you for noticing the the little bentwood chair! It is a Thonet original with the paper label and everything. I have a small collection of miniature chairs I've been collecting for my children since the first one was born. I'll have to do a post on them-thanks for the idea!

Oh Sheila, you go girl!
I am so proud of you. You have really moved up with the weights. How long have you been doing this? Congrats. Wonderful idea.

Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during our loss of Amy Girl. She will be so missed. Moma said you don't ever get over the loss of someone, you just learn to live with it. I believe that. She will forever be etched in our hearts.

She touched so many of you wonderful blogland ladies. Thank you for the cards and prayers for Amy, Debbie and her family. They cherished each and every one of them together. I had the pleasure of reading through them while I was there. Some home made, some store bought, but filled with so much love and prayers. Amy loved them so much. Thank you sweetie. You will never know how much happiness it brought to the family.

Country hugs and love, Sherry

You got me there! :-) It's always nice to have a laugh - - especially the ones that are unexpected too. I didn't see that.

It just got me thinking, if its a 50 lb sack weight even without the potatoes . . . :-) I remember I was asked this trick question as to which one is heavier: a kilo of nails or a kilo cotton (I know its a lot). I don't know if I'm slow or was just to haste and not paying attention at all :-)

Mizpah!

(Oh Sheila, I know of Debbie and since then been visiting her too. WHen I read the email, it's like what you wanted to say is there but still don't know what to say at the moment. It was difficult.

Miss Sherry and Heidi, I haven't frequent their blog. I haven't been participating that often in Pink Saturdays. I will visit them too. Thanks for sharing them

I miss visiting here)

Morning, Sheilaness! Oh, it's good to hear from you. Yep, we did the falling back last night. I'm not feeling too well, so I didn't go to church today.
Well about the memes - I feel I can pack a bunch in with one post if I've got a lot going on which I usually do.
Blue was in my dishes, I repainted my walls - Met Monday, I made mosaics - Mosaic Monday and then I'm showing a part of my home - Show Your Cottage Monday. I'm a mess, I know.
Glad you survived the little boogers last night. We had over 100 little stinkers pop in to see us! We always have lots but I think this was maybe the most we've ever had.

Now you be a good girl and a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
