Mrs. Magpie is a Big Ole Fuddy Duddy!

Okay, I said it, and now you are wondering why is Mrs. Magpie a big ole fuddy duddy? Because, dear friends, I have not begun the first bit of fall decorating... not even a teeny weeny bit!

See... I don't do scary. I'm sorry, but I don't thrill to the sight or sound of things that go bump in the night... though I must admit, some of you have had some very clever ideas with your decorations. Just don't let them fly, clomp, or shriek their way towards me (I'm skeeeeeeered)! I mean the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) is not, nor has it ever been, on my Top Ten Hit Parade. Even the bats in the pictures make me shiver. ~~Ewwwww~~ Fuddy Duddy, that's me. Just don't throw tomatoes or eggs (or even worse, spiders or bats) at me, please! ;-)

And while I love a cute pumpkin, and a festive gourd or two, it's been kind of difficult to get in the fall spirit when we've had 90 degree, barefoot weather...

[Note to readers: One of my favorite bloggers thought that Annie had a piece of wood through her head, much as Steve Martin used to wear an arrow through his. Sorry to disappoint, but she is simply reclining in her little chair!]

I'm afraid my pumpkins are languishing in the attic this year along with my scarecrow which scared the dickens out of me when I saw him on the side of the front door the other day and promptly removed him. Even Autumn Annie, who is the quintessential fall chick...

Can't get her groove on...

But lo and behold, just as you think summer will never end...

The weather softens along with the light...

And now, all I want to do is curl up under this Martha Stewart quilt...

A quilt I purchased for a great price (gotta love that Martha!) at K-Mart several years ago...

And rest my head on a sunny yellow pillow...

But first, I need to scoot the visiting munchkins over...

There...

That's better...

Now, I can hunker down in my own little corner of the upstairs sitting room's sofa...

To read my pretty pink book Cece, Todd, and Addie kindly gave me for my birthday this summer...

And admire the little antique wicker basket/table that holds magazines galore. I hoard them, you know...

The piece has been "mistreated" (as per The Nester's directives) and has some fabric just stuck on top till I can staple it on there. The basket/table cost a mere $15 when it originally had been listed at $75. Right place. Right time. Nice antiques dealer...

Then I like to take pictures of my Dollar Tree flowers in the little polka dot teacup planter I got on clearance from Dockside Imports. I realize the flowers are the ubiquitous silks, but they have such cute fuzzy centers (and were a dollar a bunch!)...

Let's fluff the sofa to take some more pics...

Speaking of which, do you take lots and lots of pictures for your blog...

And then find yourself in a quandary about which ones to post, like the one with this little guy below (also thrifted) who is a story unto himself?

I know I do...

I had so many pink pictures of Cecelia because she wore pinks the whole time she visited...

While her brother (another of our godchildren) wore his fair share of blue, making it difficult to pick a favorite shot, though this one is a definite contender...

Then there's just something about the way the light falls in one shot...

That makes it hard to pick between it and the group of others that look pretty much identical, give or take a flower pot...

Or some pillow tops...

Or the flowers themselves...

But back to fall and Florida weather and such... as much as I love the cool crisp days associated with fall, I am a sunshine girl at heart...

So while everyone else is dreaming of pumpkins, I'll be curled up dreaming of bees and butterflies...

And blue, blue, BLUE Florida skies...

Only, minus the heat and humidity! ;-)

And maybe, just maybe, with the added accent of a pink hibiscus...

Or two...

Please note that I've had several people comment about the "butterflies" print. It is a hand colored book plate print by famed artist Walter Anderson. Mr. Anderson attended the Chicago Art Institute (along with Mr. Magpie's great aunt), and though long deceased, his work can be purchased online and at a shop devoted to his art on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. I particularly love his alphabet series. Other members of his family were/are famed potters.

On that note, I'll close by thanking you for visiting me here at my blog. I always enjoy returning the call and seeing what's happening in your corner of Blogville! I'm also joining several events today including: Leigh at Thrifty Thursday, Beverly at Pink Saturday, Sally at Blue Monday, and Cielo at Show Off Your Cottage Monday . Because I've got a little something for each, I thought I would play along with each of these memes, and I want to thank each of these lovely hostesses for all the trouble they go to hosting these fun events. You may click on the event name in the line above to visit and hopefully join us for these special blog events! :-)

Warmly,

Good Morning Sheila,
You've got it going girl! The pics are so lovely and that wicker basket/trunk was really a super duper deal!!! I hoard magazines too, especially the decorating ones. The kiddies look cute of course and if I lived in Florida I don't think I could get into the Fall Decor either. That quilt is a beauty too! If I lived in Florida, St. Augustine is where I would want to be! Have a great day down there with your sunny blue skies! Hugs, Cindy

Thanks for coming to see me! I am BACK...hopefully for awhile this time. I am just giving myself permission to not feel like I have to post something everyday! I do get so busy, and can't get to the blog for a few days!!!

I rather enjoy your pretty pastel colors in this post, I am not sure I was all that ready for Fall this year. I was SO enjoying Summer and the warm weather!!

By the way, those are some wickedly cute munchkins you got there:-)

Take care!!!

I am a fuddy duddy too!! I don't do scary either!! Girl, I am sitting at my desk wearing a short sleeve dress and sandals! We are still pretty warm here too! It has started to dip down a little at night, but we have pretty mild winters. I am clinging to summer as long as I can! I told my girlfriend yesterday that it is almost November and I am still going bare legged and wearing sandals and flops! Can't remember ever doing that before!!

Loved your post! Always do!!

Have a great week and weekend my friend!

I love that sitting room!!!!! It is so crisp and colorful and I think the sun glinting through the window would make Blondie drift off to sleep in a second!!

I do fall, not scary. Even when the kids were little, it's not my style,, although I could be persuaded a bit after seeing some of the cool stuff in B.L.. Love seeing your 3 muskaters helping you out...what a lovely birthday present!!

I am in envy of your blue skies. Rain and temps in the 60s here. I have over 100 bulbs to plant and all of my outdoor fall decorations to put up. Where is Emily anyway?!! ;-)

Dear Sunshine Girl,

My plans to sneak over and erect foam gravestones sounded like so much fun. Okay, I don't do scary, either, but BG does. ;)
The quilt is very pretty. Kmart has a new line with some attractive bedding, which again proves it is possible to manufacture pretty thing cheaply as well as ugly. There are times when I have wondered!!!

Well, you know how to cover a whole bunch of bases with one post, you clever Mrs. Magpie YOU!

I do have to admit, that while I am the designer, maker and seller of seasonal decorative items. . . I DON'T...I said I DON'T have a single Halloweeny decoration displayed in my home! EEEK! I'm a traitor to my semi-profession! Actually, I'm sick of orange and black and all things fall...I've been working with them since the first of August. I'm ready for green and red and snowy-type flakes. . .bring on Christmas. I HAVE been working on santas and snowmen and little mice in my messy workroom. SO, I think I will toss out a couple of fall garlands for now, then start on my Christmas decorating early in Nov. this year.

OK, I'll stop. I just haven't had time to visit you in so long, that I couldn't quit talking!! :)

Happy Pink Saturday. . .L, Dana

I'm with you on sticking with delicate pastels and butterflies rather than decorating for Fall ... perhaps because I live in sunny Southern California on the coast and am a barefoot beach gal through and through. Hi Sheila!
I've been sitting here for the longest time, going back in time, through your older posts. There is always something nice to read, something pretty to look at, and in many cases, things that make me laugh.
For instance- Annie with the doilie on her head, or the glasses on her face. No offense Annie!
The curtains? Well, I think we can all relate to the pitfalls associated with hanging curtains. Not an easy job, and it takes COURAGE to drill into a wall.
I would love to be a visitor in your home. It looks like there is something wonderful to look at in every corner.
You can be a fuddy-duddy, and not do scary. There are enough scary people and things in this world. We need more fuddy-duddies!
Thanks for the pleasurable read!

Hi Sheila! I do sooo understand! We have finally had a frost, though, and a teeny tiny nip in the air, so maybe it is headed down toward you as well! I have put my sunflower wreath on the door and some yellow mums on the porch...just to be a little festive! But it's hard to feel Fallish when you are still mowing the grass!! lol Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

Dear Sheila~ How incredibly grateful I am to have met such wonderful blogger friends such as you. Your kind words of comfort bring sweet tears to my eyes.

Your post fills my heart with warmth and sunshine...the one thing I was truly missing as the alarm rang out this morning. How I dread the darkness this time of year here in New York. But I must say the Foliage explosion of color is breathtaking.

How lucky you are to have those beautiful grandchildren to bring great joy into your life. Thank you for always taking time to share them with us!

No room for browns and oranges there...Very lovely pastels and gorgeous children.

I don't enjoy decorating with scary...but I do love using reds and oranges of leaves and pumpkins.

I loved the frog too. Oh my, was that cute!

Hi Sheila,
What an interesting and delightful post! If I lived in Florida I think it would be hard to leave the summer grove. However, since I’m in the land of 4 seasons and barely had a summer this year autumn came naturally.

Wow!
First, beautiful pictures! Especially the beautiful children!
Second, this post is putting me so in the mood for summer again!
We actually just got back from Orlando, but the weather was quite cool and Fall-ish! Beautiful sunshine though!

I've sometimes in past years just felt not ready for Fall or the holidays even! It seems like you turn around and they are upon you! Each year I say I'm going to start early so I can relax and enjoy, but each year I break that promise to myself!

Well, enjoy your Sall, or Fummer, or what can we call this Season you are having?!
Just enjoy your beautiful weather and do what makes you happy!

Great post!
Love to you!, Eileen

Oh, how sweet of you to make a shopping offer! A secret...that I'm posting on the internet...could be the best place for a secret with all the other stuff out there confusing things...the secret is we found a company for my husband in Apopka (and there are very few in the whole of the United States) which means we could move BACK to Winter Park. Just one little teeny tiny problem...they need to hire him! And, they will...I'm going to be optimistic about this. Right?

Oh, I'm a fuddy duddy too. No scary stuff for me! It's hard enough for me to get in gear and figure out costumes for the boys to wear to our church festival this Saturday! I'm just not a Halloween person...
Your sunny days are making me mildly envious, by the way. Dear friends of ours just purchased a house in Florida to "winter" in, and I'm thinking it'd be worth a trip to see them next February!!

I thought it was a knife in her head, didn't noticed the chair, good one. You blue monday never fail to put a smile in my face. You warm blue, gave warmth to our 50 degree temp here

Thanks for dropping by and nice comments at my Blue Monday.

I *barely* managed to haul out the Halloween dƩcor on Sunday. And then I tore up some cheesecloth, draped it all around the outside of the shorehouse, and called it a season. J

Good to see Spike, er, Annie in the post! ;-)
