Nautical Notes: A Tablescape for Sea Lovers

This week, I thought I would join Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch with Georgia's own peach, Miss Susan, as our hostess. Thanks, Susan, for hosting us! :-)



Tablescapes that hit a nautical note are part of the fun of living by the sea and are fashionable year 'round here in Florida...



While this tablescape features some items that are truly thrifty...



I also think they're sort of nifty...




For the centerpiece, I used my wire basket of shells I've acquired over the years...



Add that on top of two criss-crossed runners thrifted from Marshall's, and you have the basis for your tablescape...



The thing is, these runners are actually meant for an outdoor table with an umbrella, but shhhhhhhh... we won't tell! Besides the basket mostly covers it, and we can always mask it completely with a shell (shells hide a multitude of sins) ...

To begin the place settings themselves, I added some chargers I found at the outlet mall many years ago...



Then, because our Wedgwood Nantucket was not here (well, except the teapot), I used a knock-off version, Dollar Tree plate. While we "shhhhhhh-won't-tell", the plate might just tell on itself as it has a greyish tint compared to the lustrous white of the Wedgwood seen in the genuine article aka the teapot...



Speaking of teapots, I love this one in Wedgwood's Nantucket pattern because it has such amazing detail on the front...



And on the back. Actually, the serving pieces in this pattern are all pretty cute...



Next, I am including four salad plates I found years ago at an antique mall that I thought hit a nice nautical note. These were only a few dollars as I recall...



And the napkins? Well they are actually place mats from Dollar Tree (love that store), and I thought they worked well with the navy striped runners...



And a nautical look...



Let's tuck them underneath the plates...



I added some twisty stainless that I found years ago at Target (looks kind of like rope, doesn't it, and you've got to have rope to moor your boat!)...



Add these basic Target goblets, along with a starfish at each place, and we are now cooking with gas! ;-)



I ended up with a lot of fun pictures in this shoot, and it's hard to pick the ones I like best, so I will just share a bunch and let you decide. Okay?

But first, which shot did you like best? While I have to say I like the first overhead shot...



And also this one of the twist on the shank of the flatware juxtaposed against the twist on the console's legs...



I think I like this shot best. That's my little helper who also happens to be my godson, Clement, and he says, "Time to eat!"



On that note, I believe, I'll find my place. Look, he added a pith helmet just for me! ;-)



And here's one for you, too! A pith helmet (or a straw hat) is a nice thing to have in the Florida sun...
