When Life Gives You Lemons...

Does it seem sometimes that life is one great big lemon tree and that you have so many lemons you don't know what to do with them all?

Yes? Me, too, of late.

Without getting too embroiled in a "woe is me" scenario and without going into infinitesimal detail about the lemon cake I made this spring from the lemons I was handed involving old house repairs that occurred (and had to be redone) for well over a month...

Suffice it to say, there's a whole new crop!

Lemon number one appeared when I had a close encounter with a brick staircase, a concrete sidewalk, and an immovable object and am still recuperating three weeks later. I am getting better, but it's a slow go. Truth be told, it hurts to blog...

Then I missed a family wedding, Mr. Magpie's birthday, and Pink Saturday's Second Birthday, three events I would have given anything to have celebrated and to which I had eagerly looked forward...

But all of that was rapidly put into proper perspective with the unexpected death of a close friend, one of my nearest and dearest and five closest, the kind who asks you to be in her wedding, the kind whose children are like your own, the kind with whom you've spent family holidays and milestone birthdays and regular birthdays and everydays, the kind who though your lives have taken different paths, can still pick up where you left off though a month or even a year has passed, and whose funeral was on Saturday...

Shock. Grief. Disbelief. Reality. I cried so hard on Saturday my eyes are still swollen and are veritable slits in my head. Actually, I'm starting to wonder if my eyes will ever open fully again. No, I haven't introduced her to you, yet, and I won't at this junction because I simply can't find the words to do her justice. But a husband is missing his wife, children are missing their mother, grandchildren are missing their grandmother, and friends and parishioners are grieving her loss with them...

Blogging was truly my solace through a tough few weeks. It brought normalcy and routine and familiarity in the form of your dance recitals and recipes and tablescapes. It made me forget, if even for a second, and laugh or reach out or delight in the creative muse...

Then it happened. As if to add insult to injury, I tried to download some pictures onto my blog for a post I had hoped to do, and I got the following:

YOU HAVE EXCEEDED YOUR PHOTO LIMIT! CONTACT BLOGGER!

That may not seem like much to you, but I am NOT a techy. I have no clue what I need to do next with this latest lemon, and Mr. Magpie is tied up with serious client matters. He's home. I'm not. So, I'm stuck in blogger limbo.

But you know, just as I felt I had exceeded my legal limit of lemons and was beginning to drown in the lemonade I was making by the gallon of late (and there are other things I didn't mention)...

Our young godson celebrated his birthday with a family party...

And the sight and sound of children enjoying themselves goes a long way toward the healing of a heart...

It's the antique body that needs to heal now. ;-)

And even though I did figure out how to go into past posts and steal pictures from them, that's not quite the same thing as new posts with new pictures. I'm so tired I'm not even sure what I'm saying is making sense. So I am going to take advantage of this time off, grab those lemons, and spend time making something good from them...

And when I come back I will announce the winner of Mr. Magpie's Birthday Extravaganza. So please stay tuned!

In the mean time, I hope you will join me in taking the time to celebrate each and every day we are given....

I'm going to celebrate the people I love by telling them just how much I love them...

And more important than that, show them...

I want to find joy in the little things because as trite as it may sound...

It's those little day-to-day things that comprise life...

And make its tapestry such a rich and varied one...

Above all, please know that I'm celebrating having met you and having been invited into your lives and hearts. You are certainly in mine.

Warmly,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

So sorry for the loss of your dear friend and for all the other frustrations and pains.
I saw that message once. I think it has something to do with Picassa if you are using that. I can't quite remember, but someone will.
Hold on friend. It will get better!

Let's see - where do I start - those lemons while being sour - sure can turn out some beautiful cakes and lemonade.

Children help us to see out of rose colored glasses.

The loss of a friend - a good friend is devastating. I lost mine 4-21-10 and life hasn't been
the same yet. It hurts. So I truly, truly feel for you my friend.

And we do have to appreciate every moment we have.

I sure hope you are feeling better and better.

Hello, Sheila,

I know that this has been a trying time for you, my friend. Are you feeling any better? You've been through so much.

I haven't run into that problem yet, but I think there is a way to pay for more storage space with Picasa which is Bloggers photo host. You can probably go to Blogger's Help category and maybe find out what to do.

i just sat down after a day of "lemons" also Mrs. Magpie. I was wondering for days where you have been. Now I know what you have been through, and I am so so sorry. I knew about your fall, but didn't know about your true friend.
I think of you, Jeanne, CC and Julie every single day. I was with Sister Lolotte on Sunday, and she brought so much joy to my day, like your precious nieces and nephews do for you... she does for me.
You Mrs. Magpie are always in my thoughts, and I miss your emails and your smiling face. i was just looking at all our wonderful pictures the other night. They make me smile.
I would love to sip some "lemonade" from all the lemons we could muster together. I think Julie would also be able to put a few in the pile with us.
As for blogging I think I will taking a break. It's going to be one of those months!!
Love you to the moon and back again Mrs. Magpie

Hang in there, you have loads of bloggin' friends that are here for you. Through it all you seem to still have your charming witt. I am so very sorry to read of your friends passing, friends like that who are close is like losing a family member..period. My prayers is that the lord will lift your spirtis and give you some peace. We are here for you if you need a shoulder or ???

I did read when you hit your photo limit. If click on Customize, then click on the "HELP", type in Hitting Photo limit. There will be info to help you. Also if you have a Photobucket account, you can upload your photos there, then grab the link code and use that. I read that size of photos will eat up the limit too.

Hang in there, know we are here for you.

Oh my heart breaks for you - my best to you durin these lemon days.

And who knew there was a photo limit - I guess there has to be somewhere - but it certainly is a suprise to me - and I love to use photos.

Hopefully soon the lemons will stop raining down on you and you will have sunshine and happiness in abundance.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Sheila. You've written a beautiful post.

I ran short of photo space, last year. I purchased more, from Google, since I tend to have photo heavy posts and because I like the larger photos.

Somewhere, along the way, I had not heard of your accident. Sending prayers for healing.

Oh Sheila I'm so sorry that you are on a roll right now! I can't imagine the pain you are in right now physically and to lose a friend so close. Really good friends like that are hard to come by. What a loss to everyone surrounding her. Times like this seem so senseless and make you wonder what it's all about. One day we'll have all those answers and it will make sense. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Big hugs! Sherri XOXO

Sheila, you've been in my thoughts, but I wasn't sure you were checking email. I know this weekend was SO very difficult, but hope that the poem I sent you reminds you of your friend in a better way. And thank you for this post- I needed to see this today. I need to remember some of those very things.
xoxo Pattie
by the way, I had no idea you could run out of photo space. Please let me know what you find out

Dearest Sheila,
I an deeply sorry for your loss of your friend of your 'heart'. It seems life sends us plenty of lemons... and I am so grateful with the lemons comes much sunshine.
Sometimes it takes awhile to see through the clouds though.
I have found the lemonade can become sweet most often through the peace the Lord offers to each of us.
You seem to have had your share lately!
My own special heart friend, Kathy has been gone now 5 years and she is never far from my heart. I long to visit, laugh and just be with her. She inspired me greatly with her faith. It is her positive inspiration which still brings me joy. Again I am so sorry. Is that a picture of her blowing the candle? Or in the picture of two wonderful friends?
I am so terribly sorry you fell and hurt yourself again! I am sorry blogging is painful for you because you do bring each of us so much joy and sunshine when we are dealing with our lemons and our joys! Please heal quickly my dear friend!
Sending you much love, prayers and wishes for a happy stress free summer.
Love, Beth

Good Morning Sheila,
I am so very sorry for your loss. It sound's like it shook you to the core. My very best friend from HS passed away at the age of 42 from pancreatic cancer. She still had young kids at home. I remember how I felt, and I so understand what your going through. Hang in there my friend, you have many, many wonderful friends here as well.
Now the blogger pic thing just bugs me. I got a thing telling me I can't follow any more blogs, that I have exceeded my limit. ARRR! That just bugs me to no end.
hehe.
Well, I am thinking of you Sheila. Here's to a happy summer!
Hugs,

Oh Sheila, I'm so very sorry about the death of your friend. I am blessed to have a few soul mate friends like she was and I cannot imagine my life without them. I know there are really no words that can comfort you as you grieve. There are some things that we are never going to understand in this world...

I hate to hear about your encounter with the brick wall and the steps, I hurt just thinking of it. Those accidents happen in an instant and we spend weeks/months recovering.

Sending you much love today Sheila.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your precious friend. The old lemon tree has been bearing fruit overtime here too, and I'm trying my darndest to keep everything in perspective. I am so sorry to hear of your dear friend's death. It is shocking when this happens.. this happened to my best frend about 7 years ago in my mid 50's! It's so hard. And I'm also sorry to hear about all the other lemons in your life. Somehow my basket of lemons seems to stay pretty full. Not sure why. Then I tend to stay quiet.
I guess we each have our own way of handling these situations.Thinking of you.

Oh, Sheila, I'm so sorry for your loss, a loss that I know cuts deep and will not ever fully mend. A piece of yourself has gone with her I'm sure.
And now begins the pain of life without her. I'm so sorry.

And I'm sorry for all your other woes too. I often wonder why when it rains on a life that it has to pour down buckets.
You are in my prayers, Sheila. I know you'll hold tight to your Faith, and know that I'm holding on right there with you. I hold you and your friend and her family up in prayer. I pray that a little of the peace she has now will make it's way into your hearts.
Look for her, Sheila, for I think she will be making little visits to you.
Love and Prayers,
Eileen

Sheila, I am so sorry about your loss. There are no words that can convey the pain felt after losing a friend with whom you shared the precious lives of your family. You gave a much better explanation than I did when I found out about the passing of our friend last year. I am truly so sorry.

Please know that you have given me great encouragement in the past year. Although my time in New Orleans was probably one of the most difficult periods ever, I did "grow" up more than even the planned period of reflection promised when I left Vermont. Daily I looked for flights, hotels, and a way to escape to my Florida, but I believe Someone had another plan. In the end, there was a plan.

My thoughts are with you and if we all could take your pain away, know that we would.

I am so sorry that I didn't see this sooner. It does sound as if you've had more than your share of heartache (and body ache) lately. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend...I know what it feels like to lose a friend suddenly and your brain can't process what has happened. I'm also sorry that you took a fall...we just don't have time for that, do we? I hope your body and your heart heal sooner than later. You are in my prayers. You sent so many good thoughts my way...it is my turn to send some to you.

Dear sweet Shelia I know how you are hurting. I almost lost my best friend to a heart attack this summer (I blogged about it) and if she died i would have been devastated. We don't know God's plans for us and we have to accept when we are called back to our Heavenly home. I hope your faith and your fiend's family's faith is of comfort. My sincere sympathy.

I used up all my Blogger photo bandwidth with Google Picasa over a year ago. To get more photo space and to be able to continue to post photos I had to pay $20 to Google fro more Picasa storage. I felt it was well worth it.

Other bloggers that this happened to elected to begin a new blog under a new e-mail and just linked to it.

I hope you figure it out soon and rejoin us with your delightful posts!

Hugs and much love, Pat

Hi Sheila, You closed the comments section on the most recent post so I came on down to the next one only to find out the sad news about your friend. I am so so sorry. We suddenly lost one of our young ones, totally unexpectantly, back in January and we are still reeling and grieving over it. Just one day out of the blue you get a phone call and suddenly your whole world falls apart. But you are so right in that our blogging friends do so much to hold us up. Hope you are mending now from all the trifling things going on right now in your life. A big hug to you! xoxo Lynn

I, too, Shelia, as so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. I know the pain is deep for you. . . and unbearable for her family. Last Sat. I posted about the sudden loss of a close friend of my DIL and son's. While I was not a close friend of hers, by heart still aches for the loss her husband and four young children are experiencing. I also know, that a few years ago, I did lose a dear friend of mine..unexpectedly. While she wasn't young like the friend of my son's, she gave so much to others and lived her life to the fullest. That was 6 years ago..I still miss her.

Wow, it seems like life has handed you so many challenges. It goes like that sometimes, doesn't it? Well, I'm grateful you still are able to share with us....even your down times are great reads. You are a magical blogger!!

Happy Belated birthday to your hubby!! L, dana
