Foodie Friday: Play With Your Food, Act I

Today is Foodie Friday, hosted by that loveliest of Foodies, Gollum of Designs by Gollum, and today is the day when she invites her Fellow Foodies to get together and show off their culinary talents (or in my case, lack thereof)! So thank you, Gollum, for being the hostess with the mostest! :-)

I thought long and hard about what to contribute to Foodie Friday today, and my travels took me through my picture files where I found this (and boy, were they delicious!)...



And this...



And this...



And none of it was made by yours truly. Then I found this...



Which is a photograph of a party favor bag given at a bridal tea for Mary Anne (where the goodies above were served), and this got my wheels turning. So I went to my cupboard (which was all but bare as any good takeout devotee's would be), and I found this (purchased from Publix)...



And this (left over from one of the parties this spring and purchased from a caterer), and they define crispy, flaky goodness in terms of pastry cups (literally THE BEST)...



Then I took out my trusty little party favor spoon...



And with the help of my two friends here...



Did this...



A little closer...



After looking at it for a bit, we decided it needed some help...



So we sent it packing to our Easter Bunny friends to see what they could do...



They put it on a Royal Worcester plate (Sandringham pattern), but they thought it needed more...



So they called in the Peep Patrol...



Mrs. Peep was concerned that with her addition alone, it sorta looked like a fried egg, sunny side up...



So she called in the reinforcements and "Eureka! A nest was born...



[Question: Do you think pink Peeps might lay pink eggs???]

The Peep Patrol thought the plate was too big so they sent the nest over to the Chocolate Bunnies for inspection...



And they played with it for a bit, even put it on a smaller Haviland plate in Winterthur, but alas, they couldn't get it right...



So they sent it packing to the Party Chicks...



Who were just in the process of unsetting one table and setting a new one...



So they pulled out some china and played. First, they took out an antique Bernardaud butter pat that belonged to my father's grandmother, and then put that on a small plate I found at Marshall's, a plate that is a knock-off of a Mottahedeh pattern called Duke of Gloucester...

And here's a couple of shots of the real McCoy, two of my Mottahedeh plates on which the others were apparently modeled....



And just in case you think that lettuce is edible, think again... ;-)



Then the Chicks tried the nest on another knock-off. This time something that resembles Anna Weatherly...



And yes, this is a lidded butter dish...



Wish now I had bought several of these because they could have made a fun presentation for some tiny little dessert like this...



To me, it's fun to think outside the box...



And if you know the rules, you know how far you can push the envelope...



And speaking of rules, I'm about to break my diet rule. All this playing with food has made me hungry, and just look what Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit have made for me! A veritable food fest on my green Target plate...

Left lip curl...



Right lip curl...



Look, Mom, no lips!



And who knows where the nose goes...



And the crumbs...



All gone...



Oh, did I tell you I'm a card-carrying member of the Clean Plate Club? ;-)
