This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
A salute to all who have served...
And continue to serve in our armed services...
Especially to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice...
May we never forget...
I was thinking particularly about our Viet Nam vets, many of whom did not get the credit they so richly deserved on their return home the first time...
So please allow me to say "THANK YOU! THANK YOU, ALL!" :-)
Oh, say can you see...
By the dawn's early light...
What so proudly...
We hail...
At the twilight's last gleaming...
Whose broad stripes and bright stars...
Through the perilous fight...
O'er the ramparts we watched ...
Were so gallantly streaming...
And the rockets' red glare...

I have three nephews who served in Iraq (two Marines [brothers] and another nephew is in the Navy), they are all home now but one is suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, and one may be deployed again, he said there is rumors they will be sent to Afghanistan.
I hold them as well as your cousin and all our military in my prayers.

This is beautiful, Sheila...my heart is bursting with pride. I lost one cousin in Viet Nam, but was fortunate to see my brother come home unharmed from the Marines...he reenlisted and spent 25 years as an officer.
I pray daily and fervently for our military...may the good Lord watch over them!

I Loved your post and even had to smile! We had similar thoughts about using the words of the anthem and even the same scripture! Then I went a different direction! :) It made me smile.
I was so impressed with Police Sgt. Kimberly Munley also. She truly is a hero and saved untold lives. I pray she enjoys a complete recovery from her injuries.
I am just so grateful for all who serve for Freedoms sake. And for wonderful friends like YOU...
I am saying a Prayer to keep your John out of harms way.

Sheila, this is such a beautiful post. I come from a family chock full of military men, the most recent being my brother who served in the Navy during the Gulf war. Your photo essay with the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner was perfect. We live not far from Ft. Hood and the communities here are still reeling from the tragedy. Sgt. So many have sacrificed that we might be free. I just love our Flag! It is so beautiful. There is one that flies on a huge pole you can see it over the tree tops while driving and I just pray I don't get in an accident when looking at it!! Your pictures are lovely and your tributes!

Happy Veterans Day! My dad who is a Retired Gy. Sgt in the Marine Corp. He served 37 years. and I and my daughter who attends the Military Academy here for High School all walked in the Parade it was great. we were about 850 strong and about 8 horses too. Great post. Thanks

Great post. Yes, the Ft. Hood tragedy was in our Canadian news. Police Sgt. Kimberly Munley is indeed a hero.
Wow, what a beautiful post! I had tears in my eyes reading about Kimberly. She is a true HERO!!! I will tell my grandchildren about her.
I have a nephew who spent a few years in Iraq, he is a Chaplain. Such a fine young man, he loves his fellowmen and women so much.
Thank you for your kind words on my blog, yes the World War II generation were very fine people. I heard on the radio today that 100 Canadian veterans are dying every week right now. Farewell to a very fine and brave generation of men and women.

Cheri' is giving us a laugh a minute. She is the sweetest poodle we have had. Did you know poodles have attitude? Trust me, they do. Laughing. You forgive them because they are so cute and smart. And they don't shed or smell like a dog. Yes, we are a poodle family.

The picture you asked about was taken in Utah. But it could have been taken in Idaho as their mountain areas are so similar. We live more in the Mountain and lake area in Utah.
Southern Utah has the red rock Canyons much like the Grand Canyon.

Wonderful, wonderful post.
Let's also hope that our country learns to take better care of its Veterans. Without getting on too much of a soap box, Vets are returing from Iraq suffering greatly...physically, mentally...and we need to show them the valor they show when protecting us.
