Blue Monday: Let's Dish...

Today is Blue Monday over at my good friend Smiling Sally's blog of the same name, and it's the time when we all get together to share our love affair with blue. If you love blue and would like to participate, please join us. We'd enjoy the company! :-)

Last week I shared some of my blue transferware souvenir plates, and this week I would like to share a little small grouping that started when I bought this plate in London when I visited there with Mr. Magpie and my mother. It's a sweet little Royal Doulton plate that has Beatrix Potter characters on it, specifically a fox named Mr. Todd and Jemima Puddle-duck. Here's a shot of the front of the plate that features Mrs. Puddle-duck in her bright blue bonnet. You may click on the image to enlarge...

And here are the markings on the back...

I actually bought two of those little plates, and when I found these two bowls at Tuesday Morning, I added these to the collection. Here's the front with one of the Puddle-ducks in a pair of blue pants...

And the back with Royal Doulton markings...

I decided to set a place for a little friend since these are children's dishes. So I got out one of my little linen cocktail napkins featuring a sweet little blue basket, and paired it with a green turtle just for fun. They are resting on a blue seersucker cloth that I made from some fabric I got for $1 a yard at a fabric store that went out of business several years ago. As Lady Jane can attest, I have a thing for fabric, particularly when I find a deal like that...

And then one day while I was shopping at Marshall's, I found these two mugs that have more of the Beatrix Potter characters. This cute bunny in blue is who I believe to be Peter Rabbit. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And there's even a bunny peeping out of the inside...

Here are the markings on the bottom. This is made a company other than Royal Doulton...

And here's the back of the mug. Even the handle is decorated in characters. Click to get a better view. You can see Tom Kitten in his little blue suit...

And on the opposite side of the mug is yet another bunny. I believe this one is Benjamin Bunny who's standing guard over the blue hydrangea he plucked from Mr. McGregor's garden at Publix (just kidding to see if you're paying attention -- it's silk!)...

And even though I set this for a little one, children of all ages can enjoy this place setting...

A nice cup of tea and a bowl of say, hot fruit cobbler with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top ...

Sounds pretty good to me...

And don't forget to use a pretty spoon. This one happens to be Chantilly...

Let's add in our sweet little blue basket napkin and turtle napkin ring...

And when you add it all up, you get a sweet little tablescape with hints of blue...

Which makes this girl who loves whimsy and blue...

A very happy blue camper...

That's it for my Blue Monday offerings today. Thank you so much for visiting me today, and I look forward to visiting with you at your blog! Please join me in visiting our gracious hostess Sally and the other Blue Monday participants by clicking here on Smiling Sally's.

Happy Blue Monday!

Quintessentially,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

Sheila,

I love this china. I was so lucky to receive some pieces when the girls were born. Both Wedgewood and Royal Doulton featured the Beatrix Potter critters. I never thought they could be found at TJ Maxx & Marhalls, what a lovely idea for a shower or christening.

I love your tablescape, especially your tablecloth because it is handmade with love, :-) and frugality!!

Is there any talent that you don't posses? I didn't know that you sew. The tablecloth is such a sweet addition to the darling dishes.

It is 10:30 in the morning, so I can't blame being half asleep, on how I read "...a bowl of say, hot fruit cobbler..." I was all set to look up say. I was thinking it might be a food. I am still giggling like a fool. I read the sentence aloud and then, I understood. :)

Hi Sheila, I came over to say hello again. Are you still out of town?

Today I am by myself for the first time since I had my surgery. I am so grateful for the care I have had but time to myself is heavenly. Mostly unlimited computer time. I can handle this. smiling BIG. My dh is working at the college this semester. Bad timing but it was a good opportunity for him. he loves teaching.

Good Evening, Ladies! Thanks so much for visiting me today. :-)

I'm late making my rounds (long, LONG day), but I'm going to try and make them now.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Tuesday and that you each have sweet dreams tonight...

XO,

Sheila :-)

The Quintessential Magpie said...

P.S. I love how many of you have Bunnykins and other Beatrix Potter dishes. I think they are just so sweet. We had these and Hadley plates when we were little, but I think they managed to get chipped and broken. As I recall, our Hadley plates had our names on them. I think they were horses on them. We were big horse lovers. :-)

Ohh....I puffy heart Beatrix Potter!!! My grandma was from England, and whenever she went home when I was a kid she'd bring me back something Beatrix. I feel like I may have a set similar to this in my mom's cupboards somewhere. Thank you for bringing back an amazing childhood memory! :-)
