Foodie Friday: Ode to Foodies

'Twas the week before Foodies,

When all through the night...

I was searching through cookbooks...

My house, just a fright...

Through Paula...

Through Winifred...

Through Lynda...

And Lee...

Through Jr. League cookbooks...

Through X...

Y...

And Z...

I searched...

And I searched...

Till I searched myself out...

My cooking abilities gravely in doubt...

With the spectre of beaks looming large in my sight...

When snowmen on cupcakes were just not quite right...

And nothing would suit...

And nothing would do...

Till I hopped in my sleigh...

And to Publix I flew!

I raced down each aisle...

Past the juice...

And the flowers...

Encountered a pig...

And tall looming towers...

When suddenly, much to my joy, did appear...

The bakery counter that brought my heart cheer...

And what to my wandering eye did I spy,
But fresh "shiny objects" -- Oh, my, my, my, MY!

And there in its goodness, the cake of my dreams,
A chocolate confection, the Treat Au Supreme...

So I snatched out my billfold,
And quick as a wink,
Bought that bad puppy
So my post wouldn't sink.

And now I sit sated,
In sugar rush glee,
And wish "Happy Friday"
To the Foodies from me! :-)

Thank you ever so much for visiting me today on this first Foodie Friday sponsored by our lovely hostess Gollum of Designs by Gollum. There are some wonderful treats from other participants waiting for you at Gollum's blog, so I hope you will please join us there. And as fast as you can click here on Foodie Friday, you're there! :-)

Before you go, though, let me say how much I look forward to visiting with each of you at your blogs. Thanks for always making my day complete! :-)

Quintessentially,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

Sheila, this was one of the funniest things I've ever read! You are a hoot. And the pig - I thought we were accidently in a Piggly Wiggly - do they have those there? I didn't know Publix had a pig too. I guess that's an appropriate mascot for a food store, just never thought about it before. Thanks for the grins and giggles. And that cake looks fabulous! Kathy

Hi, Ladies! Thanks for all of your sweet comments!

Susan, glad I made you smile! :-)

Jain, LOL! I love that cake, too!

Cindy, Annie is a real troublemaker, but sometimes she comes through for me! ;-)

Gloria, thanks and hugs right back! :-)

Claudie, you crack me up!LOL! Annie was driving the Magpiemobile, Mr. Magpie's ancient and unkillable Volvo wagon. I wrecked Vanna the first day I had her, and I would hate to think what might happen if Annie got behind the wheel! I will try and make a knocking thing for you. It sounds like the one on your blog! LOL! ;-)

Lynne, thanks, and I'll be right over for that drumbstick! ;-)

Linda, thanks so much! :-)

Suzy, I'm so glad you liked it! :-)

Susan, that makes my day that I helped make yours! Glad I could make you laugh! :-)

Kathy, LOL! Glad you liked it, and that's the Boars Head Pig. Publix has a dinosaur. But Mr. Boars Head was there for the grand opening of the 1000th Publix. I happened to be there, too, and took pictures. You just never know when they might come in handy. LOL!

Christine, thanks so much! :-)

Theresa, glad you liked it, and that cake is yummo! lol!

Becky, that is so sweet, and you really touched my heart with your comments.:-)

Thanks again, ladies, for visiting. I appreciate it so much. YOU made my night! I've enjoyed seeing all of your posts, too!

Sheila that was absolutely awesome!! You just made my whole morning brighter with your poem :) Happy Friday ♥

The Quintessential Magpie said...

Good Morning, Ladies! And Happy Foodie Friday!

Diane, I'm glad you enjoyed the chocolate treat! :-)

Janie, so glad you enjoyed it, and I hope the sugar plums were only dancing in your head and not on your bed. That would be a bit scary! LOL! ;-)

Mary Ellen, thanks so much. Those bakery ladies were excited to be a part of that store opening, and they really did enjoy having their picture made. I wish every day of life could be like a store opening. It should be. It's the little everyday things that make life worth living! :-)

Denise, you are always so sweet, and I'm so happy this made you smile! :-)

Linda, thanks so much, and that cake chose me! It said, "There is a lady who loooooooooves me," and it was right! ;-)

April, LOL! I'll never tell. ;-)

Rachael, I'm so glad you liked it, and that cake was every bit as good as it looked! Chocolate gonache bon-bon. YUM!

Kathy, I'm so happy you liked it and that it gave you a smile! When Gollum said we didn't have to cook, I breathed a sigh of relief. But then I figured I better make it fun. I'm glad you all thought it was. :-)

Thanks again, ladies, I'm out the door in a few to travel. You all made MY day with your sweet comments! :-)

XO,

Sheila

Take a bow, your super duper, creative post wins the "Made Lisa Smile, Giggle, and Crave Chicken Award".

Annie driving was a wonderful sight. Does she have any friends who would like to give it a go on snowy roads?

The Publix bakery appears to rival any of the independents. Wow, those treats are mouth watering even on a monitor.

I now am craving Chicken Marabella, my favorite Silver Palate Cookbook recipe. Capers and prunes...yum, yum, yum.

There is no way you can be THAT old. LOL I will keep my guesses to myself, but unless Mr. Magpie married his mom's contemporary, you are far from grizzly. Knowing my propensity for putting my foot in my mouth, that might be the case!

Cut me a piece (good choice)! Note to Publix - Please send sweet Sheila a giftcard ;)

Good Morning -- BJ, Becky, Lisa, and Cam! Thanks for all of your sweet comments. I appreciate them and YOU so much! And Lisa, I feel "grizzled" whether I am or not. LOL! If I don't get on the road in about five minutes, I will definitely be grizzled from fighting Friday afternoon traffic. LOL!

Happy Foodies!

Sheila,
I do share that in common with you. I love your story. The first time I climbed up that tire swing rope to sit on the branch, I was so scared to come down that I just decided to live up there forever. That lasted till I had to go to the bathroom so I had to come down. After that, it was easy going up and down.
