Blue Monday & Blue Resolutions

On this beautiful Blue Monday, I decided to start the year off right and resolve to start a few projects (some I need to complete). But I have other resolutions, too...

First, I need to take time to enjoy all the beautiful things around me, particularly the blue skies and waters of Florida. This oil painting on our staircase wall reminds me to do just that. Whether near the Atlantic, the Gulf, or inland waterways, Florida is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and I need to enjoy both its natural beauty and the man-made things that make it such a fun place to live. I get busy and don't spend enough time doing that. So this resolution sounds like a good one to me! :-)

Next, I'm going to dip into this blue can of Benjamin Moore paint and finish a project I started in our study. But now that I see Pat's foyer, I'm thinking I might like SW's Mink better. Please don't tell Mr. Magpie!

Next I need to take this blue fabric that has been lurking in my closet and slipcover a chair that needs to go in the bedroom.

Then I need to eat smaller portions, and this blue Canton plate is living proof that I'm trying. I used a salad plate and fork tonight, but notice I'm still a member of the Clean Plate Club. Although, I do see one pea left. Oh, and one last thing, I need to stop snacking in front of the computer. I've got to lose weight before March!

Finally, while I feed myself less, I need to feed this blue fellow more! It never hurts to save, and he's just begging to be fed! :-)

That's my blue for today, how about you? If you have blue or want to see more of it, please pop on over to Smiling Sally's for lots of blue posts. Sally hosts Blue Monday for all of us, and it's great fun. Thanks, Sally, for being such a gracious hostess!

Happy Blue Monday! :-)

Quintessentially,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

Ms. Magpie...I love your creative blue post! Hmmmmm.....perhaps if you SHARED the blue fabric with me I would not HAVE to mention to Mr. Magpie about the color change...and how he will be sanding and LOL priming for hours! Deal?????
And just think...one less piece of fabric to count...lol!

That's a great list of resolutions. But it reminds me of a lot of the things I need to get done, too - darn it! I especially love your Canton plate - such a nice blue and white. Happy Blue Monday!

Great resolutions!

I need to paint our downstairs powder room, and I am thinking of a Wedgewood Blue.

We moved into this house in August and I am just now feeling like I have time to start tackling some of my home projects. The Fall was such a blur with boys sports and school, the holidays were just as bad...so, it's nice to know that I can finally start to do those home improvement projects.

Oh, I am jealous you are in nice, warm Florida right now! We love St. Augustine, FL...hubby and I have been discussing taking a quick trip down there for our Anniversary at the end of this month.

Is it warm enough to lay on the beach yet?? hahahahaha

You're waaaay too ambitious for me. My resolutions are much more vague than that.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I made any "resolutions"... At least not in the traditional sense.

Happy Blue Monday, Ladies!

Sally, I hope I can do it! LOL!

Jane, no fair! I don't tell on you! ;-)

Susan, great minds and all that! ;-)

Ellen, I'm not sure I'm going to make it, but I'm going to give it the old college try. Will let you know if I succeed and how! ;-)

Joy, after I posted this, I had to go back to bed! LOL! ;-)

Liz, thanks for the vote of confidence! Sure have missed you and glad you're back!

Rehcelle, thanks ao much for the positive reinforcement! I need it! Sometimes I'm a tad too ambitious. :-)

Rachael, if you see this, email me! We are right downtown and would love to meet you if you had the chance! I will be gone the weekend of the 30th, but if it's before that, then I could try my best to meet you! And yes, it's a tad chilly... but over Christmas, it was warm enough to catch rays at least! :-)

Mojo, sometimes I scare myself! LOL!

XO,

Sheila

Love your blue resolutions. I think you're right on about not snacking at the computer I lost 25 pds in 2008 by giving up that very habit.

Sheila, your resolutions are real goals you have set for yourself. I am proud of you. I agree that we need to stop and appreciate the world around us. We are so blessed and we need to remember to 'seize' the day.

I love your blue today. I'm pulling for you Sheila. Smiling BIG!

Hi Sheila
Again...thank you for the birthday song. How special you have made me feel this birthday..*hugs*.

I like your new year's resolutions...thoughts. The picture is beautiful and you do have lovely waters and scenery to enjoy in Florida. That is a beautiful picture.

I love your blue plate even if it is a tad smaller...they say thats what you should do. We have tended to make larger and larger plates and how can one sit down with a large plate 1/2 full anyway....

You have some great projects to do and we both know how good it feels to complete them...its like a weight off one's shoulders and mind isn't it? oh my...I love checking off things from my "to do" list.

You are off to a great start!!
Now I should think about what I can do next...I'm just bathing in the thoughts of not having so many things to think about and starting a "new slate" with Christmas off my mind, as lovely as it was.

have a great day

I love that you are using a salad plate and fork to eat. Great idea! I think I will try that.

Use us, your blog readers, as your inspiration to accomplish all of your projects. As in, I have to get them done, so I can share photos.

Every day, I track the weather here, in Orlando, and in St. Augustine. Then I email it to my relatives, the people who think we have lost our minds.

Enjoy your Blue Monday>

Good Evening, Ladies! Thank you for visiting! :-)

Beth -- You are the sweetest, and I'm so glad we share peardom! Thank you for the encouragement with the projects, and yes, Florida is calling your name! :-)

Shelia -- I will do that! Thanks!

Amanda -- Wow! That's fantastic! Congratulations!

Jeanne -- Thanks so much for being in my corner! :-)

Melissa -- Thanks, glad you do!

Judi -- Thanks for the encouragement, and I'm glad your birthday was fun! :-)

Penny -- The plate thing really works! And yes, Mink is good. I wonder how it would be with the light in this room??? I "might" have to experiment before the second coat goes up, but this one works with the Persian rug... Decisions! Decisions! LOL!

Hi, Sweetie -- I have the best slipcover lady in the WORLD. She is good and she is reasonable. Love her and couldn't do without her! :-)

Pat -- I would rather be going to MoMA with you than starting on these projects! LOL! :-)

Dawn -- I have the projects lined up, but getting them knocked out is another matter. It might be next fall! LOL! ;-)

Dixie -- My little piggy has friends that go with him (quarters, nickels, dimes, pennies) so there's one for each! :-) They're not blue, or I would have posted them. :-) Thanks for the invitation. I'll come check things out!

Lisa -- It is beautiful here right now and the perfect temp! :-)

Gloria -- I hope you get yours done, too! :-)

Love to you!

XO,

Sheila :-)

That oil painting is so pretty, & what a great resolution to go along with it!

I have quite a few projects I want to tackle this year, too. I hope I get to all of them! I can't wait to see what color you choose for your paint. :0)

I know what you mean about the snacking in front of the computer - it's almost like when I go to the movies. I think I've got to have popcorn & coke. lol

Have a great Tuesday, Ms. Sheila - I'm off to get caught up on your other posts!!

Well, m'am... I could just about take your list as mine..except for the chair. I love your music! My daughter and SIL were listening to a country song they said was a favorite of my his that mentioned Gene and Roy. I asked them if they even knew who they were...no. That's a shame! I used to love me some Dale Evans and Buttermilk many moons ago when I was but a tiny Plate Addict! Love the Blueness! You must post the results of your projects to inspire us all!...Debbie

It sounds as though you have set some great goals for yourself. My goal is to walk a mile a day. I just love that blue plate. so pretty. Happy blue Monday!

Good Evening, Ladies!

Sherry -- I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I enjoyed visiting you and your blue bird house! :-)

Heidi -- It was my pleasure to drop by to see you! And I'm glad you like the painting. Bought it years ago for Mr. Magpie's office, and then swiped it back for the nest! It was a very "shiny" object to me. ;-)

Susan -- LOL about the plate, and you're very welcome! :-)

Linda -- Glad you like the Canton, and I was loving all of your Blue Willow. A friend of mine collects it, too, and there are so many pieces that you can find. It's wonderful! :-)

Hi, Manuela! I'm so glad to see you and glad you enjoyed the post!

THanks, Theresa -- I will, and I am happy to pray for you! :-)

Lorrie -- Thank you, sweet one! Let's just hope the smaller plate trick works! ;-)

Diane -- We all need to make a pack to help each other! :-)

Sandy -- I love blue and white with yellow, too! Such a fresh, fun look! :-)

Ms. Tee -- I'm so, so, SO glad you're back! :-)

Debbie -- "I used to love me some Dale Evans and Buttermilk many moons ago when I was but a tiny Plate Addict!" LOL! I know what you mean! I used to be "Dale" and my cousin Barry was "Roy," and we fought imaginary bad guys on horseback! LOL! Real horses, though. :-)

Carol -- A mile a day is going to make a difference in the way you feel, and you should feel great! :-)

XO,

Sheila :-)

Muse, just now seeing this! That fabric has been sitting in my closet for the longest! I really do need to get the chair done. But first, I'm slipcovering (or having them slipcoverd) two love seats that are about thirty years old and begging to be slipped! :-)

Glad you like my blue, though! It will get there...some day. LOL!
